My first time trying this place and the buckwheat noodles, I really liked it! The noodles had the best broth and were cooked to perfection.

I even tried their plum wine and it was delicious on the rocks.

The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, clean and simple.

The service was slow, but that's probably because it was a busy night.

We saw the sudachi soba from this place and wanted to give it a try so we made a reservation and hopped on over.

The soba is so good especially if you love your noodles Al dente! We got the regular cold soba and the sudachi one (preordered over the phone) and both were great! The tempura was light and crispy but I do wish they had a separate sauce for it. No worries there because the soba sauce worked well with it. We also ordered the miso marinated black cod which was amazing! One of the best dishes we had that night, it was flavorful, flakey and grilled to perfection.

Capped off the night with their Japanese custard dessert and it was to die for! I would go back again just for it! The house made caramel topping was sweet yet slightly bitter and it paired perfectly with the vanilla ice cream and the texture of the custard.

Overall 10/10 and we would definitely go again!

A little less than a year later, we came back. We finally got to try the yakitori and I am constantly thinking about it. The chicken hearts were juicy, tender, perfectly seasoned.

I have added chicken hearts in soup before which is easy, so I tried pan-frying them at home since Otafuku was closed & a long distance from home, and I was craving it - but it was harder than I expected. I didn't realize that if you leave it cooking a little too long, it becomes dry and hard to chew. It made me appreciate my experience at Otafuku that much more.

The udon itself is not "special" (understandably so since this place is known for their soba), but it was just right for the meal because the vegetable tempura that came with the udon is delicious and really made it shine!

My friend JoJo came to town, and we hung out with some of her friends who live in Gardena. They took us to this hidden gem for dinner. I swear I've driven by it hundreds of times but never noticed it.

Whenever I go to someone's favorite spot, I always eat what they recommend. So for this one, we had the following:

Edamame with sea salt: excellent but also hard to mess up.

Japanese egg omelette: my first time having this. I could eat it every day. It was seasoned so well and just delicious.

Karaage chicken: extra crispy chicken was delicious and moist.

Vegetable tempura with cold seiro noodles: I had the option of getting the noodles cold or hot. I got cold but wish I chose hot. I didn't eat much of this. The tempura was great, but I'm a big vegetable tempura fan.

We ordered individual entrees and the appetizers family style. It ended up costing about $40 per person. I would definitely go back and try other stuff. I would probably have a rice dish instead of the noodles.

This is the most authentic soba restaurant I've been to.  The soba comes with many different options and is delicious.  The service is also very friendly and prompt.  The restaurant is comfortable and updated but you wouldn't be coming here for the ambiance.  The only negative is the value.  I have sticker shock when a tempura soba is well over $20.  Lunch for 3 was $120, with a couple of appetizers.   I still remember a meal such as this costing half the price.
